Photo cred: AWS

AWS Elemental MediaLive is a really fascinating service that allows for high quality video streams to internet-connected multi-screen devices. Live stream data is encoded and compressed to be easily distributed.

Above is a quick diagram to illustrate the flow of data from the source (camera live streaming or broadcasting). AWS Elemental MediaLive converts the live input into a smaller and more compressed version, more suitable for distributing to a multitude of devices. AWS Elemental MediaStore and AWS Elemental MediaPackage are both used for compression and consistency output of media. And finally, CloudFront is used in conjunction to provide the media output to devices.

If you’re interested in creating a Scalable HLS (Http Live Streaming) Live Stream from an input feed using AWS Elemental MediaLive check out this great step by step tutorial by Rahul Golwalker. Great read and tutorial that provides a cost break down for configuring a stream through the AWS console at the bottom of the page.

And as of today, with AWS Elemental MediaLive, there is now support for AVC(advanced video-coding, ie: MP4 format) UHD (ultra-high definition, ie: 4K high definition) outputs! For more information click here.

This means Super life-like video quality and compression –
